Barcelona keeping an eye on Chelsea star for a Swap Deal

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

It is reported that Barcelona is willing to go for a swap deal with Chelsea. The Catalans are looking for a midfielder exchange as they target Chelsea’s 29-year-old Jorginho.

Barcelona is willing to swap Miralem Pjanic who they signed last year in September in exchange for Arthur Melo.

Pjanic joined Barcelona from Juventus with high expectations but has failed to impress in his debut season. He lacks game time with only 28 appearances in all competitions.

He also has failed to register a single goal or assist to his name this season. Barcelona is desperate to offload him in the coming transfer window in any way possible.

Pjanic has a contract with Barcelona for the next four seasons, until the end of the 2023/24 season and has a huge buy-out clause of €400 million.

Barcelona keeping an eye on Jorginho

Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli in 2018, and since then he has been a mainstay in the midfield for Chelsea with 136 appearances.

He had some issues this season while Frank Lampard was the manager, but has again regained his form under Thomas Tuchel. He might be also in the playing eleven for the FA cup final and Champions League Final this month.

Jorginho has started in 37 matches in all competitions while registering 7 goals and 2 assists this season. This impressive form for his team has caught Barcelona’s eye.

Jorginho is believed to be an ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets in the first team. Busquets is having frequent injuries and is also nearing his retirement. Jorginho can effectively fulfill the role of a defensive midfielder in his absence.

Barcelona could ideally go for a swap deal for Jorginho in exchange for Pjanic. The Catalan club is currently short on funds due to the COVID-19 pandemic and would be using the money to sign a forward next season.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will be ready for a swap deal, as Pjanic’s performances could come in the way of the transfer.
