With only one game remaining in the season, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez and the club’s technical team are already focusing on team planning for the following season. Sales will be required in the coming weeks as the La Liga champions attempt to balance their accounts in order to achieve Financial Fair Play.
Ferran Torres is one of the players that appears to be set to leave Barcelona this summer. According to AS’s Javi Miguel, the Blaugrana will be willing to sell the Spanish international for as little as €20-25 million. Given that they paid €55 million for him in January of last year. The club will be taking a big loss by selling the 23-year-old.
Barcelona might sell Torres to Newcastle United
Torres’ time in Barcelona, however, has not gone as planned. Xavi had a lot of belief in the Spaniard, who was one of his first acquisitions as Catalan manager. However the former Manchester City ace showed glimpses of ability in the second half of the season. But his poor finishing left everyone disappointed.
Torres’ situation has deteriorated even worse this season, as he has remained on the bench, rarely appearing as a starter.
In the pecking order, Robert Lewandowski, Ousmane Dembele, and Raphinha definitely surpass the former Valencia star. With the La Liga champions expecting to sign Lionel Messi, Yannick Carrasco, and Vitor Roque this summer, his chances are even worse. As a result, despite the fact that they would incur a loss, Barcelona is ready to sell Torres for a fee of roughly €20-25 million.
Newcastle United are among the clubs which has shown interest in the former Manchester City midfielder. For the first time in over two decades, the Magpies have qualified for the Champions League. Eddie Howe will be given a large money to deal with in the coming weeks. Hence Torres is certain to be a target. The thought of returning to England and playing for a Champions League club could persuade Torres to leave Barcelona.
