Barcelona look forward to signing Napoli Captain Lorenzo Insigne

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

According to Marca, FC Barcelona are targeting the Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne in this summer transfer window. The Catalans are looking to bolster their attack more by securing the Italian after signing Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay recently.

Insigne started his football career with Napoli in 2010, following which he was loaned to three clubs over two years. The Italian played for Cavese, Calcio Foggia and, Delfino Pescara before becoming a mainstay for Napoli. Since his debut for the first team, he has appeared 397 times for Napoli, while scoring 109 goals and 85 assists in all competitions.

The Italian’s form this season for Napoli was also commendable, as he appeared 48 times in which he scored 19 goals and 11 assists. However, despite his impressive form in front of the goal, Napoli finished fifth in the Serie A table. As a result, the Italian side failed to secure a Champions League spot next season.

Following this poor performance from Napoli, Insigne will be leaving the club in the near future. And as an opportunity, Barcelona have desired to sign the Italian. But the Italian has not spoken about his future much confidently due to his focus on Euro 2020.

Currently, Insigne is wearing his national team jersey for the Euros and focusing on winning the Euro title. The Italian has also scored against Turkey in Italy’s opening. While Italy advanced to the round of 16 by securing top position in their table.

Barcelona sees an opportunity to sign Lorenzo Insigne

Barcelona are going strong in the summer transfer market as they have already signed four big players for next season. And the list consists of three free agents Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and, Eric Garcia. While they paid €9 million to Real Betis for landing Emerson Royal.

However, the Catalans are still looking for a forward despite signing two big names for free this summer. Barcelona are currently looking for a player who can replace Antonio Griezmann, Phillipe Coutinho, and, Ousmane Dembele. The Blaugranas are looking to offload those three as soon as possible, following their poor form and high maintenance.

As a result, Barcelona have targeted to sign Lorenzo Insigne in near future. The Italian’s form for Napoli over the past seasons and his recent form for Italy has gone to catch the eye of Ronald Koeman. While his uncertain future for Napoli has also forced the Catalans to keep tabs on his situation.

But Barcelona might be facing financial problems to sign the Italian this summer, as they are drowned in big debt. However, they may arrange some if they sell some of their players who are not in the plan for next season. Otherwise, the Catalans have to wait for next summer, as Insigne’s contract ends next year with Napoli. So, let’s wait and see if Barcelona can land another forward this summer, or Insigne decides to continue for the Italian side.
