Barcelona might go all out for ex La Masia defender

Julian Araujo

Barcelona currently boasts a strong team. But the team has relatively small squad size and the fact that some players are already in the latter stages of their careers. Hence, the club is actively seeking young talents to bolster the team, with an eye toward building for the future.

Barcelona is closely monitoring the progress of one of their former youth academy players, Juan Miranda. Although the young talent currently plays for Real Betis, his future remains quite uncertain at the moment.

Miranda’s formative years took place at FC Barcelona. Before he made the switch to Real Betis as a free agent in 2021. Barcelona still retains a 50% share of the player’s rights. However, Miranda’s contract with Real Betis is to expire at the end of this season. Hence, if he departs the club without a transfer fee, Barcelona would also forfeit their 50% ownership share in the player. Consequently, Barcelona is keen on Miranda renewing his contract with Real Betis to safeguard their interests.

Will Barcelona be able to sign Miranda?

According to SPORT, the ongoing negotiations between the two parties have hit a roadblock. Meanwhile, it appears that Miranda is inclined to see out his contract with Real Betis. As a result, both AC Milan and Barcelona are expected to compete for the young talent’s signature. In fact, reports from Italy suggest that both clubs have already initiated contact with Miranda’s representatives.

Barcelona’s preferred scenario is that Miranda renews his contract with Real Betis. If a renewal doesn’t materialize, Barcelona would aim to secure his signature as a free agent. However, the ultimate decision will rest on the player’s own preferences. Since, he will face stiff competition from both AC Milan and Barcelona in the process.

While at Real Betis, Miranda has distinguished himself as one of the most promising fullbacks in the game. He holds his time with the Verdiblancos in high regard but feels that the time has come for him to seek a more significant challenge. Barcelona regards him highly and sees the possibility of acquiring him. Particularly if Marcos Alonso does not renew his contract with the club.

Miranda isn’t the sole player on Barcelona’s radar. The Catalans are also keeping tabs on Ian Maatsen from Chelsea, who has similarly not renewed his contract with the London club. The Dutchman has high fame in Barcelona, but a definitive decision has yet to be reached.
