Barcelona talent seeking a move-out

Julian Araujo

Barcelona academy graduate Mika Marmol is no stranger to the Cules. A product of the distinguished La Masia, he is regarded as a future star of the Barca backline. Xavi Hernandez has also shown his trust in the 21-year-old. Marmol made his official debut against Getafe last season. The left-footed defender can also play as a left-back. A pro-active defender, he is the perfect fit for the possession-hungry Catalans. He is good on the ball; his passing capacity enables him to break lines and kick start the attack.

However, Barca signed Christensen from Chelsea and Jules Kounde from Sevilla. It is safe to say that Barca has a capable backline for the future. Marmol featured heavily for Barca Atletic last season and was one of the star players. However, this season, it is unsure if he will play for Atletic again. The defender is looking for a move away in search of senior football. The loaded backline of the first team makes it hard for Marmol to get any guaranteed gametime.

F.C. Barcelona’s plan with Marmol

Barca is open to hearing offers for Marmol. Even though they are looking for a loan move for the player to gain experience, they are not discarding the idea of a permanent move away. A host of Spanish top-flight outfits are interested in signing Marmol. Both Cadiz and Girona are interested in signing him for their first team. Second division outfits, Andorra, are also interested in acquiring him for the new season. Greek side Aris de Thessaloniki is also interested. However, Barca believes a Spanish team is more suited for developing the youngster.

It is yet to be seen if Marmol leaves on loan or a permanent move. He has only a year left of his contract. And Barca would want to renew the contract before sending him out on loan. Barca believes that the current set of defenders in the first team with Pique, Araujo, Kounde, Eric Garcia, and Christensen is complete and one for the present and future.

Whatever the decision Marmol and the club arrive at, there is no doubt that the young defender is a talent to look forward to.
