Bayern Munich goalee Neuer to return before encountering Mainz 05

Munich Sommer

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is on the path to recovery after a 10-month injury hiatus. Thus, he could potentially make his comeback as soon as Saturday when the Bundesliga recommences. That is with a match against the struggling Mainz 05.

The Germany international has been in the sidelines since he fractured his leg during a skiing vacation in December 2022. That is a period that followed Germany’s early exit from the World Cup.

There is a possibility that he will be available for Saturday’s Bayern Munich match, as reports indicate that the club’s medical team has cleared the way for the 37-year-old to make his return to the field.

Bayern Munich relied heavily on Ulreich during Neuer’s absence

The Bavarians who have not issued an official statement on the subject, have leaned on the experience of backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich this season. Additionally, they secured the services of 23-year-old Israeli keeper Daniel Peretz in August.

Ulreich has played a key role in helping Bayern Munich secure three clean sheets in the league this season. The last time the club achieved this feat in the first seven matches of a season was back in 2017.

Bayern Munich has maintained an undefeated record in the Bundesliga this season. Currently sitting in third place with 17 points, just two points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, the team is in excellent form.

Bayern Munich possesses the most prolific attack in the league, having scored a total of 23 goals. Winger Leroy Sane has been particularly impressive, finding the net six times. The German forward is in exceptional form, surpassing his previous goal tally for the entire first half of a Bundesliga season.
