Bayern Munich in pursuit of PSG star Kehrer

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

After winning the DFL Supercup this week, Bayern Munich is keen to bring in PSG defender Thilo Kehrer. The former Schalke star is one of the players that the German giants are looking to bolster their defence with.

Kehrer made his move to PSG in 2018. However, he has found it hard to find regular times with the Parisians. Bayern are looking to capitalise on the situation, especially after the arrival of Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi to PSG in the summer.

French news outlet L’Equipe reports that Bayern are looking to bring in Kehrer to their fold this summer. The outlet even claims that a three-year contract is agreed between Bayern and the player’s party. However, many reporters from Germany have since come out and rejected these claims.

FORMER SCHALKE STAR TO RETURN TO BUNDESLIGA

Kehrer is a versatile defender who can play in the centre of the defence and the right-back position. He is an excellent passer of the ball and is also a good tackler. He can even play in the midfield, further highlighting his utility.

The 24-year-old came from the Schalke academy and made his Bundesliga debut in the 2015/16 season. The 2017/18 season helped him earn a move to PSG, where he won multiple trophies.

He has played 97 times for PSG across all competitions, scoring twice during the period. However, the player has not been able to cement his place in the star-studded line-up. The arrival of Ramos and Hakimi pushes the German further down the pecking order.

IS BAYERN REALLY AFTER KEHRER?

Bayern Munich is in the market for defensive reinforcement after many departures and injuries on the team. The French pair of Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard are missing out due to injury, and David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, and Javi Martinez left the club the summer on free.

PSG will be looking to sell some of the players from their squad after many high profile signings. Kehrer is one of the casualty and is a reason why Bayern are tempted to bring him in. If the reports from L’Equipe are to be believed, an agreement is in place between Bayern and Kehrer’s entourage.

Yet, multiple reporters like Florian Plettenberg and Tobi Altschaffl have since rejected the claims. It will be an interesting few weeks as the transfer window will close at the end of the month. All eyes will be on whether Kehrer will return to Germany this season.
