Bayern Munich Want Barcelona Midfielder Frenkie De Jong

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Many reports have been rising out of the blue on the future of Barcelona lad Frenkie De Jong. The 23-year-old was signed by Blaugrana in 2019 from Ajax for a price of €75 million. Multiple outlet states in their reports that Bayern Munich are enquiring about De Jong to start transfer speculation.

Though Frenkie has scored nil and assisted only once this season in La Liga, Barca wouldn’t want to loose their prime player in anyways. Barcelona currently sit at 8th position in the table and Bayern at 2nd spot in Bundesliga standings.

Catalonia-based outlet Mundo Deportivo reports the Bavarians are preparing a move for Blaugrana’s De Jong. Barcelona have been facing severe financial constraints due to a pandemic situation. ESPN reports the debt has risen to €488 million amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Barcelona had asked players earlier to take a wage-cut due to the situation. Yet, that doesn’t seem enough to attain balance in the books.

If Barca is forced to sell their players in the upcoming January transfer window, then certain players that the club believes as high-value in the market include Ansu Fati, Marc-Andre Ter Stergen, Antoine Griezmann, De Jong, and Lionel Messi will leave soon.

Bayern Munich Big Admirer of De Jong?

De Jong had signed a new contract with Barca several weeks back that sees him stay till 2026. If Barca is to sell, Bayern would be the possible team to land the Dutch midfielder. Bayern had scouted De Jong since 2018, but unfortunately, he decided to take his talent elsewhere.

Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic remains an admirer of De Jong. He has kept contact with the midfielder’s agent since the Dutchman’s decision to join Barcelona. If anything pans out in favor of Bayern Munich, Barcelona would themselves see De Jong leave for the same price they paid to Ajax to land him.

Bayern has several other midfielders on its radar to look for if the prime transfer doesn’t take place. Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga and Florian Neuhaus of Borussia Monchengladbach would be them.
