Bayern Munich standout player, Leon Goretzka, sustained an unspecified hand injury in the team’s 3-1 win against Mainz. Hence, this situation has raised concerns for coach Thomas Tuchel.
Bayern Munich manager Tuchel said: “I’m a bit worried about Leon and his hand. I hope it won’t end up like with Serge. Leon played very well today, just like he did against Freiburg, and scored a very decisive goal to make it 3-1. Now we just hope the hand injury isn’t that bad.”
Goretzka delivered an outstanding performance. That is scoring a goal and providing an assist in what was arguably one of his best showings of the season. The Germany international boasted an 87% pass completion rate. Thus, contributing two key passes, made one interception, and only relinquished possession nine times. However, the injury concern could potentially disrupt his momentum.
Bayern Munich manager Tuchel looking for options
In the event that Goretzka is sidelined due to injury, Thomas Tuchel may turn to Konrad Laimer as a potential replacement. Laimer has been versatile in his playing time for Bayern Munich, switching between midfield and right-back duties. That is partly due to injuries affecting Noussair Mazraoui and Tuchel’s own preference to deploy Laimer in the right-back position.
Tuchel has the option to shift Musiala to the No. 8 position, but it’s interesting to note that this choice hasn’t been considered, particularly after two seasons where the young player was deployed as deep as the No. 6 position.
Currently, it appears that Musiala is being primarily a No. 10 player in Bayern Munich, and this perspective could pose challenges for the squad, especially considering the limited depth available in that position.
Raphaël Guerreiro could potentially be an option as well. But his recurring injury issues have hindered his ability to contribute consistently.
