Bayern Munich president Hoeness talks about Harry Kane transfer fee

Harry Kane

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has stated that the club paid approximately £82 million (€95 million). That is to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. Kane joined Bayern Munich ahead of the 2023/24 season, ending his long tenure with Tottenham.

Harry Kane departed Tottenham Hotspur as the club’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Jimmy Greaves’ record that had stood for nearly half a century. Kane achieved this milestone in February during a 1-0 victory against Manchester City. He scored a total of 280 goals in 435 appearances for Spurs during his tenure at the club.

Harry Kane had a contract with Tottenham Hotspur that was set to expire in 2024. Bayern Munich expressed their interest in signing him in the summer of 2022. While Tottenham initially hoped he would sign a new deal, they grew concerned about Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Kane during the season. Ultimately, Kane made the move to Bayern Munich ahead of the 2023/24 season.

How did the deal process between Harry Kane and Bayern Munich?

Harry Kane set an internal deadline for Bayern Munich to agree to a transfer with Tottenham. He stated that if he was still with Spurs by the start of the 2023/24 season, he would remain at the club for that year.

Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur reached an agreement on August 10. Thereby, Harry Kane completed his move to Bayern two days later, signing a four-year contract with the club.

According to Uli Hoeness, Bayern Munich paid a lower fee than initially reported for Harry Kane’s transfer. While reports suggested an initial fee of £86.4 million (€100 million) plus add-ons, Hoeness has claimed that the actual amount paid was less than that.

Harry Kane has made an impressive start to his career with Bayern Munich. Recording nine goals and five assists in ten games across all competitions. However, he was denied his first trophy with Bayern. That is when they were defeated 3-0 by RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.
