Bundesliga has been a mere formality for almost a decade now. Bayern Munich has won the league for the 10th successive season in 2022. However, the 2022/23 season has started well for a number of Bundesliga clubs. Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg, and Union Berlin have started strongly this season. Out of the three clubs, Borussia Dortmund is the only team that is capable of maintaining a strong start and mounting a title challenge to the Bavarians.
However, the club requires substantial improvement if they want to challenge Bayern Munich for the league title. The club has lost two games this season already and both games have highlighted different problems. The loss against Werder Bremen was a shocking result as the club conceded three goals after the 88th-minute mark.
The loss against RB Leipzig recently was a reflection of the inconsistency that the team harbors. In the last few seasons, Borussia Dortmund has been very inconsistent and that has hampered them from winning trophies. The team is either in excellent shape and form or they struggle to even get a point.
Squad stability has been a concern for Borussia Dortmund
One of the most important characteristics of the club is their acumen for business. The club is known for nurturing young talents and selling them for huge profits. Every summer, the squad witnesses departures due to this very policy. However, this summer was different in terms of the approach.
The club sold Erling Haaland to Manchester City this summer. However, apart from the striker, no major players have left the club this summer. On the contrary, Borussia Dortmund has signed a few key players to strengthen the squad further.
Niklas Sule, Nico Schlotterbeck, Sebastien Haller, Salih Ozcan and Karim Adeyemi have joined the club. The acquisitions have strengthened key areas in the squad and afforded the adequate depth that the team needs. It is important that Borussia Dortmund capitalizes on this indifferent transfer window and performs to the expectations this season. It will be interesting to see how the manager is able to integrate the new signings and build a strong team to challenge the German champions!!
