Firstly, it is important to understand why Borussia Dortmund needs a new centre-forward. The team has been overly reliant on Norwegian striker Erling Haaland. Who has been in sensational form since his arrival from RB Salzburg in January 2020. Haaland has scored an astonishing 51 goals in just 55 appearances for Dortmund, but the team has struggled to find a suitable backup for the 21-year-old.

The lack of depth in the attacking department was particularly evident during the first half of the 2020/21 season when Haaland was sidelined with an injury. Dortmund struggled to score goals in his absence and eventually finished outside of the top four in the Bundesliga, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since the 2014/15 season.

What did Borussia Dortmund thinks about the striker?

With Haaland’s future uncertain and no other proven goalscorers in the squad, Dortmund’s need for a new centre-forward is clear. The club has been link with several high-profile strikers, including Sergio Aguero, Dusan Vlahovic, and Alexander Isak, among others.

Aguero would undoubtedly bring a wealth of experience and goalscoring pedigree to Dortmund. The Argentine striker is Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer and has won four Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy during his time in England. However, at 32 years old, Aguero’s best years are likely behind him, and injuries have limited his playing time in recent seasons.

Vlahovic and Isak, on the other hand, are both young and exciting prospects with plenty of potential. Vlahovic has been in excellent form for Fiorentina in Serie A this season. Scoring 16 goals in 27 appearances. While Isak has been a revelation for Real Sociedad in La Liga, scoring 12 goals in 23 appearances.
