Carlo Ancelotti blames luck as Real Madrid lost to Sheriff

Real Madrid suffered a shocking defeat against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League fixture, and Carlo Ancelotti had nothing but luck to blame. Los Blancos facing the first time qualifying Sheriff in the Champions League looked an easy win for Madrid on paper. But what we saw on the pitch was totally different from it, as Sheriff won the match by 2-1.

Seeing the stats nobody can believe how Real Madrid lost against the newcomers. Los Blancos had the most possession in the game with 75% of the ball with them. While Madrid had a total of 31 shots towards the Sheriff goal, but they only scored one goal that to from the penalty shot.

From the starting of the game, Real Madrid looked dangerous with the ball while defending on the high line to get an early lead. But it was Sheriff Tiraspol who opened the scoring in the 25th minute from Jasurbek Yakhshiboev. Madrid equalized the score in the 65th minute as Karim Benzema scored from a penalty kick. After that Real Madrid had several chances to go on a lead but their poor finishing came in the way.

Taking advantage of Madrid’s poor finishing Sheriff scored the second goal in the 89th minute. Sebastien Thill scored a beautiful goal as he shot a half-volley into the goal from outside the box. Following which Sheriff had a historic win against the Spanish giants Real Madrid by a 2-1 scoreline.

Talking about the shocking defeat in the post-match conference, Carlo Ancelotti didn’t have any explanation about it. As per Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid did everything they could, but it was a hard-luck that they couldn’t win. While from the stats after the game it really looked like it was bad luck for Real Madrid. However, Ancelotti said his team will come back stronger after the Sheriff defeat.
