Carlo Ancelotti denies rumours of bust-up with Karim Benzema

Carlo Ancelotti has denied speculations of a dispute between himself and Karim Benzema, claiming that the duo have no issues. The French forward was replaced after 71 minutes in Real Madrid’s recent Champions League triumph against Chelsea, exiting the pitch with the score still 1-0, and he appeared to be unhappy with the decision.

Ancelotti substituted Benzema for his minor foot discomfort

Ancelotti stated that Benzema had a foot discomfort, despite the player believing he was physically fit to play. The Italian denied that Benzema was upset with him because of the substitution.

“Karim is fine, he had this knock and I took him off him because when I think the game is over I think about giving him a little more rest like Kroos and Modric”, he told reporters.

Ancelotti also revealed that he told Benzema that he would take minutes away from him if necessary. Also that it didn’t make logic for him to carry on playing, even if he was in mild discomfort.

“The important thing is to explain it, I have spoken with him that if I can take minutes from him I will do it”, he continued.

“It didn’t make sense for him to continue with that little problem and the game decided. He understood it perfectly.”

Hence Ancelotti gave valid reasons for removing him. Benzema has struggled with fitness issues all season. The 35-year-old, who is Ancelotti’s sole experienced striker. He has made only 19 La Liga games, losing time due to six major ailments. To his day, Benzema remains one of the game’s greatest strikers. However sources in Spain claim that the veteran forward’s contract with Real Madrid has been extended by one year, committing him to the club until 2024.
