Chelsea are interested in Inter Milan’ star midfielder

Chelsea are looking to sign Nicolo Barella from Inter Milan

Inter Milan star midfielder Nicolo Barella has emerged as one of Chelsea’ midfield targets in this upcoming summer transfer window.

Chelsea have only three recognized first-team experienced midfielders. N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Mateo Kovacic for the midfield positions in the preferred 3-4-2-1 formation under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

The 24-year-old Italian International can be a very good addition to the Blues squad. He is mobile, agile and good with the ball as well. Barella can score goals as well from midfield and he can also launch very good long balls.

Can Chelsea sign Barella from Inter?

Inter Milan are currently at the top of the Serie A table. 11 points ahead of the second spot AC Milan. Inter have got 74 points in 30 games. Nicolo Barella is the engine for Inter in midfield this season. He is also an integral part of this season’s success of Antonio Conte’s side.

Nerazzurri bought Barella from Cagliari initially on loan for €12 million in June 2019. Then Inter signed him on a permanent deal for €28 million more in the following summer. The 24-year-old Italian midfielder made 29 appearances this season under Conte. He scored 3 goals and assisted 5 times for the Nerazzurri.

Barella has a contract with Inter Milan until June 2024. So, if Chelsea want to buy him they will have to pay around €70-80 million as Inter paid a total of €40 million for him just last summer.

It is hard to believe that former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will let his star midfielder go to Chelsea as his time with the Blues wasn’t pretty at all. Conte is a manager with a mentality to win trophies and to achieve that he won’t be happy if he lost players to the other rivals for the European competitions.
