Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit for Haaland as they look to land an attacking prowess. In a bid to land Haaland, Chelsea are willing to offer Timo Werner to Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.
Erling Haaland is going to be the transfer of the season. But it is to be seen which club is the luckiest. He has been strongly linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester United who recently revealed that the Norwegian is their primary target.
Erling Haaland has made a strong statement to every clubs with his performance. He became the youngest and the fastest to score 20 Champions League goals. On the other hand at Chelsea, their big signing Timo Werner has failed to live up to the expectations. So, Chelsea might think of expressing a swap deal.
A swap deal that can benefit both the clubs
After Thomas Tuchel took over at Chelsea they look completely different, the team is yet to be beaten. Although their scoring statistic is miserable. They have scored only 15 goals in 12 games. As a result of which they look to sign Haaland.
Timo Werner was a force at RB Leipzig. At the Bundesliga club, he was on a goal fest and eventually became the club’s top scorer in 4 years with 95 goals. Chelsea activated his release clause of £47.5 million in 2020, hoping that he would keep scoring the way he used to.
Unfortunately, it has been really disappointing transfer for both the club as well as the player. He has only been able to score 10 goals overall in 38 games. He also admitted that if he had scored goals, maybe the manager who signed him would not have been sacked.
Borussia Dortmund is in no hurry to sell their main striker. But a favorable deal will never be said no to, especially given the financial problems. So a cash plus swap deal is what it will take Chelsea to persuade Dortmund.
Chelsea confident of landing Erling Haaland
Chelsea have sufficient funds to bring any players they like, thanks to the 2 years transfer ban they had. Timo Werner is finding it difficult to adjust to the Premier League.
He had mentioned that life in the Premier League is different, and the defenders are really tall and tough. If there is no turnaround in his performance, the club can easily discard him by including him in the swap deal to lure BVB.
Although Thomas Tuchel has a German connection with the player, he has not been able to get the best out of him. He has been seen shouting at the player on various occasions, the latest being in their matchup against Leeds United.
“Of course this is something, some statistic to which every striker is attached and everybody needs to have the mentality to cope with the pressure that comes along with statistics. It’s like this in high-level football.” – Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel
Erling Haaland has a release clause of £75 million which will only be activated in 2022. So if any club wants to sign him now, they have to make a bid of around £100 million. A report has also been said that Dortmund has set the asking price at £150 million.
