Joan Laporta makes Erling Haaland his primary target for Barcelona

Wolves

Erling Haaland has taken the football world by storm and has broken records along with it. He has attracted many clubs that have shown interest. Having said so, Barcelona’ newly elected president, Joan Laporta has made Erling Haaland his number 1 transfer priority for the upcoming season.

Haaland made a record that will be tough for any upcoming stars to break. This week, he became the youngest as well as the fastest player to score 20 Champions League goals. He achieved this feat in only 14 games, and at the age of 20 years and 231 days. He is also on an impressive goal-scoring run with 30 goals already to his name this season.

The Norwegian broke into every European club’s radar after he started showing his strength when he played for RB Salzburg. He soon joined Borussia Dortmund where he has been rampant.

In the 1-and-a-half-year time with The Black and Yellows, he has scored 47 goals in 47 games. His Champions League form has been exquisite as well. Scoring one more goal will help him break his previous record of 10 goals that he set last season.

Joan Laporta want to build his team around Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi

Erling Haaland has already become the most wanted man in the transfer market. What makes him more enticing is his price tag. Haaland has a release clause of £75 million that will be activated only in 2022.

No club will want to wait one more year for a goal-scoring machine and will take the risk and buy him this summer. If a club wants to buy him, they will have to cough out at least £100 million.

Joan Laporta defeated Victor Font and Toni Freixa and returned to his post that he left 11 years ago. He is famously known for turning things into gold. Back in 2003 when Champions League was ruled by their rivals Real Madrid and La Liga by teams we now hardly hear of, Joan completely turned Barcelona upside down.

He splashed a lot of money, but cautiously, not like how they did in the past 5 years. Many big names like Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o, Deco, Henrik Larsson, Thiery Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were signed under his rule. And by signing one of the tactical masterclasses, Pep Guardiola as their manager, they became invincible.

In one such similar situation, he has been re-elected by the club. Laporta’s main aim is to bring players into the squad who can deliver whenever the team needs them.

Erling Haaland an ‘absolute priority’ for Barcelona

The Norway international will be on the radar of many European clubs. With the goal-scoring capability like his, any club that grabs him does not have to worry about a striker for a whole decade.

Barcelona is pursuing the right player, but it is not going to be a piece of cake. Clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, and Manchester United have already shown strong interest in getting the striker. Barcelona will have to prove to Haaland that they need him in order to get his attention.

But the problem for Barcelona is something completely different. Even if they strike a deal with the player, they don’t have enough funds to get him. Barcelona has been struggling for the past 5 years and they have fallen into a debt crisis. Their total debt has surpassed £1 billion.

There have been reports claiming Barcelona are planning to sell a lot of players. And that is a must if they hope to land Erling Haaland and other players who they have shortlisted. Its going to be a long summer of transfers this.
