Chelsea is aiming to sign either Ronaldo or Neymar

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea has been looking forward to signing either Ronaldo or Neymar. Todd Boehly, the club’s new owner is interested in those global stars.

Chelsea hasn’t made a single move in the transfer window compared to its rivals Manchester City, and Liverpool. However, the new owner Todd Boehly won’t let that be the case until the end of the day. The Blues are desperate to replace Romelu Lukaku who failed to meet expectations & left for Inter Milan on loan.

The club’s initial target was Raphinha from Leeds United, but the Brazillian turned down a move to the North London club. The 2-time Champions League winners’ mind is all over the place in bringing a goal poacher to Stamford Bridge.

Current Premier League Standings

However, the availability of Cristiano Ronaldo & Neymar in the transfer market alerted the Blues to pick up their pen and paper and run behind their signatures.

Ronaldo’s current situation

Manchester United’s “Star Boy” made an unexpected comeback to Old Trafford last year and set the Premier League on fire. Ronaldo proved to be the world’s best by scoring 24 goals in all competitions despite the remaining 10 players being out of form. Even though Cristiano contributed so much to the Red Devils, they failed to make a mark even though they had the most expensive squad in the world.

Ronnie needs a Champions League trophy

Cristiano Ronaldo has clinched the big-eared trophy 5 times in his career & will not stop at winning more. United failed to win 22 games in the 2021/22 season and finished 6th which is statistically their worst season ever.

Now the Portuguese international has never played in the Europa League in his 20 years career. He will not tarnish his pride with such an unwanted record by continuing at Manchester United. And the team doesn’t look promising with Pogba, Cavani, Lingard, and Matic all leaving.

Ronaldo is 37 years old and doesn’t want to spend his final years in a second-tier European league. The 5-time Ballon D’Or winner asked for a transfer if Manchester United finds a significant replacement. All this alerted Chelsea who has everything Ronaldo needs & is pushing to sign him.

Neymar’s current situation

The Brazillian is facing a completely different situation in Paris Saint-Germain. Neymar signed for the French side back in 2017 for a whopping $232 million. He was actually impressive and lived up to the price tag. Neymar scored 100 goals and assisted 66 times for PSG during his 5 years time in the country’s capital.

To experience a new challenge

Neymar has played in the French League for 5 years now and has won nothing but the League 1 title. The pinnacle of his PSG career would be the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 2020. Sadly, the 30-year-old just couldn’t get his hands on European football’s most wanted silverware.

Neymar thinks his time in the French capital is over and doesn’t believe PSG can win a trophy outside France. He thinks it’s time for a change and considers leaving the club for other opportunities. However, with the World Cup around the corner, the Brazillian thinks this wouldn’t be the correct time to focus on transfers.

Not in the spotlight anymore

When Neymar came to PSG, he was the talk of the town. He made the headlines not only in France but in the whole world. This sadly didn’t last long for him, especially after Mbappe left Monaco for Paris. The 23-year-old took the world by a storm with his talent leaving Neymar out of the spotlight.

To mount to his agony, Lionel Messi left Catalona & joined Paris last year. The Brazillian lost the center stage to Messi during his Barcelona days and doesn’t want to play in his shadow again. This is another main reason why Neymar wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

With all this happening in France, which team in England is benefiting from this drama? Chelsea.

Should Chelsea sign either Ronaldo or Neymar?

Who wouldn’t want the best players to have ever walked on the planet to play for them? Every Chelsea fan hopes the club to go all-out for either Ronaldo or Neymar. But what concerns the club is the salaries the international stars would be demanding.

Ronaldo earns £200,000 a week in Manchester which indeed speaks for his talent. This is something Chelsea needs to think about before landing the Portuguese. But if the club convinces the player they can win the Champions League or other trophies, maybe he’ll agree to a pay cut.

Neymar in the same vein earns £500,000 a week in Paris Saint-Germain. To look on the bright side, Chelsea has qualified for the Champions League and can negotiate with the Brazillian to agree to a smaller salary. Even if everything goes well for the Blues, they can only land one player.
