Chelsea manager reveals he talked to Caicedo regarding his form

Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea manager, reveals that he has been engaging in a discussion with Moises Caicedo. That is regarding his performance. Chelsea shattered their transfer record in the summer to acquire Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115 million. However, the midfielder has yet to fully justify his hefty price tag.

In discussions with the Evening Standard and other media outlets in anticipation of Chelsea’s upcoming match against Caicedo’s former team, Mauricio Pochettino disclosed that he has held conversations with the player regarding his performances since joining Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino said:

“Before this press conference, he was in my office for 20 minutes. It is easy because we speak Spanish. It is a subconscious process and that is a problem, only in time can you adapt.”

Caicedo has a huge role to play for Chelsea as he did with Brighton

During his tenure at the Amex Stadium, Caicedo played a pivotal role for Brighton. His departure has left his former manager, Roberto De Zerbi, expressing discontent with the 22-year-old’s exit.

Facing the unavailability of Reece James, Malo Gusto, and Marc Cucurella for Chelsea’s upcoming match against Brighton, Pochettino finds himself at a crossroads. The ex-Paris Saint-Germain manager must decide between starting Caicedo at right-back or opting for Axel Disasi in that position.

Caicedo has previously featured in the right-back position during his time at Brighton. Meanwhile, Disasi assumed the role in Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to west London rivals Brentford in October. Given that neither player has a natural inclination for the right-back position, Pochettino faces a challenging situation. It is evidently a tough scenario for Caicedo to recapture his top form if he is not deployed in his preferred midfield position.
