Chelsea now considering 25-year-old striker to solve goalscoring woes

It is no secret that Chelsea are desperately looking to sign a striker. They have been heavily linked to Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney in recent times. However, Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea have a brand new name on their list of potential number 9s.

He told his Substack that the Blues are now considering adding Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres to their ranks to try and solve their goalscoring woes.

Chelsea seem to be looking away from Osimhen because a deal for him would set them back another club-record fee.

Chelsea eyeing Viktor Gyokeres

Phillips said: “Chelsea are looking at ALL of their options though and as you know, Toney and Osimhen are not the only strikers being looked at and being shortlisted by the club right now. They are looking at other options just in case, which is obviously a very smart thing to do whether Osimhen and Toney are staying the priority targets or not, which I believe they are.

“But there has been a new name added to the shortlist in recent talks, and this guy can certainly be described as an all-round number 9. Sources report Chelsea have added Swedish international striker Viktor Gyokeres to their striker shortlist.”

Many clubs are watching Viktor

The Sweden international has become a regular goalscoerer in the Portuguese league this season. This has certainly caught the eye of many major European teams. Phillips said: “Scouts have been raving about him, and not just Chelsea’s. He’s being watched by a host of major European clubs.”

Even though a lot of clubs might be interested in Gyokeres, Chelsea’s desperation for a striker makes them a favourite. Moreover, his physical presence would certainly suit what manager Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly looking to bring in.
