Reports are now coming from Chelsea that the European champions are considering bringing Leroy Sane to Stamford Bridge. Manager Thomas Tuchel is an admirer of the German and wants to sign him from Bayern Munich.
Sane made his big-money move from Manchester City to Bayern in 2020 but has not been able to impress at his homeland. If the 25-year-old is up for sale, Chelsea won’t be the only club interested in his signature.
However, it is very unlikely for Chelsea to sign Sane, with the attacking options the club have at their disposal. The Blues recently brought Romelu Lukaku back to their team and will be keener on strengthening other parts of the team.
FINDING IT HARD AT BAYERN
Leroy Sane was one of the brightest stars in Germany when he made his move from Schalke to join Manchester City in 2016. He appeared 135 times for the Citizens scoring 39 and assisting for 45 goals. However, when Bayern Munich came calling, Sane decided to move back to Germany.
But, the 25-year-old winger soon found it difficult to impress at Bayern. His huge price tag and the high wages made him a common target of hate from a section of the fans. Though he scored 6 and assisted 10 goals from his 32 Bundesliga appearance, more was expected from him.
With the new season starting both the club and the player is hoping for better performance. Already there are calls for the new manager Julian Nagelsmann to field Jamal Musiala instead of Sane. The coming campaign will be vital for the German to get back his confidence and show it on the field.
CHELSEA PLANNING SANE WERNER SWAP DEA
For Sane, the interest from Chelsea and their manager Thomas Tuchel should be a good sign. But the whole move still makes little sense considering the strength of their squad in the attacking areas.
While Romelu Lukaku will definitely play up front, players like Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson Odoi are fighting it out for the other spots. This meant that a move to Chelsea will not ensure more minutes for Sane.
One way Chelsea are looking to solve the problem is to offer a swap deal. The club is reported to be considering swapping Werner to bring in Sane. Werner who is also having his own issues in front of goal have excelled previously with Nagelsmann at Leipzig. This could be a good solution, but the chances for the move seems very unlikely.
The time is still too early to speculate the future of Sane. If he can regain his form that made him one of the best young talents from Germany, Bayern will not want to sell him. But another mediocre season could cut his time short at Bavaria, while also make Chelsea reconsider.
