Chelsea reportedly earned an additional £20m payment from Eden Hazard’ move to Real Madrid last season. According to Daily Star, Chelsea managed to earn £20m last season due to Eden Hazard. That was despite the winger spending more time out of the team due to injury instead of playing for Madrid.
During his time at for the Blues, Hazard was one of the main attacking forces in the team. He netted 110 goals and gave 92 assists in 352 games while winning Premier League twice with Chelsea. He also bagged two FA Cups and two Europa League titles.
Hazard was bought by Los Blancos to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. However, over the past two seasons, he has been mostly out of the team due to injury. Hazard has missed a staggering 45 games for Madrid in less than two years.
Due to his frequent injury, Hazard has been labeled the worst signing by Real Madrid in its history. The football pundits believe this poor form of hazard could not justify the huge sum of money Real Madrid paid for Hazard.
Chelsea increase the burden on Madrid by getting bonus for Hazard
Real Madrid had to pay a sum of €100 million to bring the Chelsea Star to the team. It is also believed that the figure may rise to €150 million with various add-ons stated in the contract. As a result of which, it seems Chelsea has been profiting selling Hazard to Real Madrid despite the players long injury list.
According to a report from The Athletic, Chelsea has earned an amount of £20million last season as a bonus for selling Hazard.
It is believed that Chelsea went on to earn a neat £20m in add-ons that were built into his contract. The bonuses are believed to be due to Real Madrid winning La Liga last season and qualifying for this season’s Champions League.
Chelsea could profit even further in case he goes on to win the Champions League with Real Madrid this season. For that to happen, Madrid will have to get past Chelsea in the second leg of the semi-final as both the team went to draw 1-1 in the first leg at Alfredo di Stefano.
