Real Madrid reportedly views Jules Kounde as a long-term replacement for Raphael Varane. Madrid started targeting him after Varane expressed his desire to move away from Madrid.
Los Blancos apparently have been making the center-back position a top priority in the summer. This is due to two first-choice center-backs are set to leave the club in the summer transfer window. Madrid might have readied David Alaba as a potential Sergio Ramos replacement. However, now they also want to sign a replacement for Varane in the team.
According to reports, Madrid is interested in a move for Kounde in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old French defender is being considered as a long-term replacement for Raphael Varane.
Jules Kounde has gone on to establish himself as one of the best defenders since joining Sevilla in 2019. Less than two years since arriving in Spain, the youngster is a mainstay at the back for Sevilla with almost 80 appearances in the league.
Madrid might face competition from Chelsea
Real Madrid might have to go head-to-head against Chelsea as they want to find long-term replacements for the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva, and Kounde’s impressive displays for Sevilla have caught their attention too.
As per reports, Jules Kounde has a release clause of £68 million, which isn’t beyond Chelsea. However, the chance to remain in Spain and play for a team that are challenging for titles could be too tempting.
Kounde the right choice for Madrid?
Kounde is a quick and agile center-half who hardly gets beaten in a 1v1 foot race. He possesses remarkable strength to overpower the opponent and win some important headers for his team. This makes him a decent choice to be Varane’s replacement.
His passing is great, his positioning is amazing and his decision-making is almost always spot on. He is great on the ball which makes him an undoubted starter in games where teams press the hell out. As a result of which Zidane can expect him to add some serious competition for Nacho and Eder Militao.
A defender of Kounde’s quality will undoubtedly be the right choice for Zidane if he is confident that he can get the best out of him. With all things considered, it would be great for Real Madrid to consider signing the French defender ahead of the new season.
