Chelsea Sack Lampard, Tuchel Rumoured to Replace him

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea sack their head coach Frank Lampard a day after the 3-1 win against Luton Town.

Lampard becomes the 12th manager to be sacked under the reign of Roman Abramovich. The Blues have lost five of their last eight matches in the Premier League.

The club would be putting an official statement after the arrival of new coach. Currently, it seems Thomas Tuchel is the front-runner among other possible replacements.

Unavoidable sack for Lampard being a former Chelsea player

After a string of frustrating results, Frank Lampard is finally facing the moment that he would have never thought of.

The Pensioners looked dangerous in the first few matches in his second season after being unbeaten for 17 consecutive matches.

The fortunes turned suddenly as the London club is now far away from the title race sitting at 8th place in the standings. However, the club will now have to rebuild the project again.

Additionally, the club praised for the good moments that he had left for the club! However, as per Chelsea owner, it was indeed a tough and very difficult decision to sack Lampard.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”– Official statement by Chelsea Football Club

Lampard had also gifted the club with many talented youngsters like Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Reece James and Fikayo Tomori among the rest. However, it is highly unlikely whether the new coach might promote such development of young players!

Tuchel the best alternative for Chelsea?

Thomas Tuchel is leading the race for the job. In addition to this, there might be a possible reunion with Christian Pulisic after he left Borussia Dortmund. He has an impressive Points per match (PPM) rate of 1.89.

Tuchel was sacked by Paris Saint Germain after the French side showed less dominance in the Ligue 1. He had a brilliant win percentage at the Parisians (about 74.8 %) and helped them win the domestic treble.

He even guided PSG to their first ever Champions League final during the 2019-20 season. However, his side lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.

Additionally, as per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tuchel could replace Lampard. It might benefit the German players Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Antonio Rudiger.

Chelsea next face Wolves on Wednesday evening in a must-win match to be able to make it to the top four.
