Chelsea shortlist Serie A forwards as Haaland deal looks unlikely

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea have shortlisted three forwards from the Serie A if they fail to sign Erling Haaland in the summer. This includes Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, and Andrea Belotti from Torino.

The Blues are desperate to bring a recognized number nine in the squad for next season. Tammy Abraham or Oliver Giroud haven’t been able to fill the void. And the new summer signing Timo Werner has been shooting blanks since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Borussia Dortmund have asked more than €150 million for Chelsea’s number one target Haaland. The price will go over €200 million including the agent fees. And the salary of the player if they want to buy him this summer.

However, the 20-year-old Norwegian has a release clause in his contract which can be triggered in the summer of 2022. So, it will be hard for Chelsea to land him at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea spent over £200 million last summer.

Who are the Haaland alternatives for Chelsea?

It won’t be easy for Chelsea either to sign either of the two strikers of the Nerazzurri. They have already asked for €120 million for their star Belgian and former Blues forward Romelu Lukaku.

Argentine forward Lautaro Martínez also has a release clause of €111 million in his contract. They are trying to remove the release clause by offering him a new contract after Barcelona tried to sign him last summer. However, the asking price was too much for them.

The only cheaper and easier signing will be Belotti from Torino. The 27-year-old striker has a release clause of €100 million. However, Chelsea won’t need to pay the sum as he will remain one year in his current contract this summer.

It will be interesting to see who will be wearing the #9 shirt at Stamford Bridge next season. If they can sign Haaland that will be great for the Chelsea fans but nonetheless anyone from these names will be a great addition for them.
