The highly-rated Bundesliga youngster Konate has got everyone’s attention including Chelsea. Fair to say the coming summer we can see a tug of war for Ibrahima Konate. Chelsea is said to have reignited their interest in the race to sign the Frenchman.
Konate joined RB Leipzig in 2017 from Sochaux at the age of 17. Although he had a few injuries struck years, his performance was never hampered. He had attracted interest from various European giants for the past few years, but his performance for Leipzig last year elevated his significance.
He was a crucial member in their Champions League journey to the Semi-final last year. This year also he has been a solid wall alongside Dayot Upamecano in their race to Bundesliga title. They are 2nd in their league, with only two points separating them from the top.
Liverpool and Manchester United had shown their interest not much long ago. Chelsea was said to have left the race but recent reports suggest they are now back in it.
Is Chelsea the right place for Ibrahima Konate?
It has been a season with ups and downs for Chelsea. Under Frank Lampard, they had a perfect start to the season. But their bad from since December resulted in dropping points and position, eventually ending in the sacking of Frank.
But things have been going great for them since Thomas Tuchel’s appointment. They have regained the lost foot and are back in the Top 4 of the Premier League table. Moreover, Chelsea is yet to taste defeat under their new manager.
Chelsea is busy almost every transfer window. Last season they splashed more than £200 million despite Covid-19 affecting the financial market.
There has been an improvement defensively and the likes of Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva have proved their worth. But The Blues are yet not satisfied enough. They are looking to become invincible by adding more players.
Thiago Silva is not a long-term player as he is 36-years-old now and Fikayo Tomori who is on loan at AC Milan will probably make that move permanent. So Chelsea will be definitely looking for a center-back in the summer market.
Another great reason for Konate to make his move to Chelsea is because of Zsolt Low who is Thomas Tuchel’s assistant coach. He knows Konate from back when he was in Leipzig and those two have a special connection.
Zsolt knows the potential that the kid has and he will be playing a crucial role in landing the 21-year-old. In addition to that, his release clause of £39 million looks very much affordable for any club. Adding Konate to an already star-studded Chelsea side would ensure Tuchel won’t go trophyless.
