Raphael Varane has reportedly attracted interest from English heavyweights Chelsea. The Premier League club has surprisingly joined the race to sign him alongside rivals, Manchester United.

The Blues are currently emerging as the favourites to sign the French centre-back. He has been one of the key players for the Los Blancos but the club is looking to buy some new players like Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and David Alaba.

The 28-year-old defender’s future is uncertain at his current club and is yet to renew his contract. However, his contract would expire only in the next season and his form hasn’t been upto the mark this season.

Chelsea frontrunners to sign Varane

According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Raphael Varane could be leaving Spain for a possible transfer to Premier League. Also, Chelsea have reportedly agreed to pay a transfer fee of around £70 million for the four-time Champions League winner.

Varane has been a phenomenal defender for the Castilians after joining from Lens in 2011. However, the current season has been disappointing for him although his club is still in the race to win the Champions League and La Liga.

“My future is clear, I am focused on the end of the season,” – Raphael Varane on his future.

As per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club President has hinted Varane moving away from the Santiago Bernabeu. He said, “Varane? I’m happy of our team… if players don’t want to stay at Madrid they can leave”.

The Red Devils and PSG are the other clubs interested in acquiring his services. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team were initially leading the race to sign him. However, all eyes would be on him as his club faces Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals.
