Chennaiyin 2-2 Goa: Post-match Analysis and Notable Performances

Chennaiyin FC drew against FC Goa by 2-2 in the Indian Super League at GMC Stadium Bambolim Stadium on Saturday.

Chennaiyin FC‘ hopes for the semifinals seems impossible as they stand 8th with 18 points.

Meanwhile, FC Goa are placed in the fourth position with 24 points. They are level with Hyderabad FC but the Nizams are ahead on goal difference.

Chennaiyin FC 2-2 FC Goa Team News:

Chennaiyin FC Head Coach Csaba Laszlo made three changes in lineups. Edwin Vanspaul and Jakub Sylvestr replaced Germanpreet Singh and Isma Goncalves. Jerry Lalrinzuala returned to his left-back position after his suspension. The formation remained unchanged.

On the other hand, FC Goa replaced James Donachie with Ivan Gonzalez. Head Coach Juan Ferrando went with the same 4-2-3-1 formation.

Chennaiyin FC 2-2 FC Goa Match Analysis:

FC Goa almost conceded in the opening 3rd minute, Dheeraj kicked the ball to Manuel Lanzarote. Lanzarote struck it left-footed but the Gaurs custodian saves it. Chennaiyin received yet another chance in the 9th minute when Regan Singh sends in a cross to the far post. Memo Moura received the ball on his chest and took a shot that went wide the post.

Finally, Jakub Sylvestr breaks the deadlock giving Chennaiyin the lead in the 13th minute of the play. The Slovakian forward received the ball from Reagan and dribbled through two defenders before he slotting it to the back of the nets.

Igor Angulo won a penalty as Eli Sabia was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box. He converted the penalty however the referee disallowed the goal on account of the players’ encroachment. Angulo netted in his 2nd attempt and added one more goal to his tally.

Both clubs received chances to go ahead of one another although could not capitalize on the chances. Dheeraj conceded in the 60th minute as he comes off his line to collect the ball but misses it completely and Lallianzuala Chhangte receives the ball in the left of the post and makes no mistake to convert it.

However, Ishan Pandita’s goal in the injury time equalized the score. Ishan latched onto a pass from Alberto Noguera and struck it past the keeper.

Notable Performace and Comments:

Ishan Pandita: He played 3 matches for the club and managed to score four crucial goals for the Gaurs to pick points. Also, awarded the Hero of the Match Award.

Alberto Noguera: Noguera bagged the DHL Winning Pass of the Match Award. He has 7 assists in his name so far in this ongoing ISL season.

Igor Angulo: Angulo stands 2nd in the top goal scorer list with 11 goals from 15 matches.

Jakub Sylvestr: Sylvestr scored the first goal of the evening for Chennaiyin FC. He has one goal and 2 assists in his name.

Lallianzuala Chhangte: The Indian International scored his first goal of the season.

Chennaiyin FC’s next clashes with NorthEast United FC on 18 February at GMC Stadium Bambolim. FC Goa face Odisha FC on 17 February at
Fatorda Stadium.
