Chennaiyin ropes in young goalkeeper Prateek Kumar Singh

On Thursday, Chennaiyin FC officially announced the signing of promising young goalkeeper Prateek Kumar Singh. After performing well in the domestic leagues, Prateek gets a chance to show his potential on the biggest stage of Indian Football.

Chennaiyin’s Custodian slot:

In last year’s Hero ISL, The Marina Machans heavily relied on Debjit Majumder in their goalie position, whereas Samik Mitra was there as an optional backup. Debjit’s poor performance and individual errors spoiled the team’s overall result.

But after the midway point of the season, the CFC management saw a ray of hope by using Samik in that position. So in building up this year’s team, their recruiters have settled their eye on potential juvenile prospects to bolster their last line of defence.

Prateek’s professional career:

The 23-year-old GK started his football career at Raman Vijayan Soccer School. He also represented ATK at the youth level.

Later, he carried on his professional career with Chennai City FC (2019–20), Neroca FC (2021-22), and Real Kashmir (2022-23). This year, he joined CFC on a free transfer ahead of the upcoming season.

How Prateek Kumar Singh will add depth to the Chennaiyin squad:

Expressing his excitement and eagerness to start his new journey, Prateek said,

“I am extremely excited to embark on this new journey with Chennaiyin FC. I’m looking forward to having a great season with my new teammates and the fans.”

Prateek should follow in the footsteps of Samik Mitra to get success in his first-ever ISL season. It’s a fact that Prateek will not be the first choice, but he has to wait for his chance patiently.

Prateek will have to use his few chances to put in his name. With his intelligence in game reading, quick reflexes, bravery, and strength, he will definitely establish his name under the bars.

Two-time Hero ISL champion Chennaiyin FC appointed their former boss Owen Coyle to their hotseat. They have also strengthened their squad with the utile signings of Sweden Fernandes (Midfielder), Ankit Mukherjee (Defender), Bijay Chhetri (Defender), Sachu Siby (Defender), and Irfan Yadwad (defender).
