Courtois claimed Real Madrid should have defeated Barcelona

After El Clasico, there was less controversy than usual, as it was clear Barcelona defended well. Thibaut Courtois agreed with this. However, Real Madrid’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, stated that Barcelona did not deserve to win and Courtois further agrees with his statement. Courtois said while in an interview:

“We dominated the game but they tried to defend the result after an unlucky goal and it was hard to shoot on goal. It was very difficult. They have won when they did not deserve it. We played a controlled game but we didn’t find the opportunity to score a goal.”

What did Courtois and Ancelotti say after their defeat?

Los Blancos dominated the game with 65% ball possession, but failed to have any shots on target. Courtois acknowledged that Barcelona defended well, making it difficult for Real Madrid to score.

“They have defended very well, they concede few goals in La Liga. Sometimes the last pass doesn’t come off. It is to their credit, they have defended very well and we will have to try to win in the second leg.”

Ancelotti expressed confidence that Real Madrid could win if they played the same way in Barcelona, and Courtois agreed with him. Ancelotti said:

“When you lose against Barca it’s always a bad thing.”

“The result is not going to change the focus of the second leg either. We have to win our game and continue. We’ll see how we arrive after the league games we have now.”

Real Madrid’s attacking play thrives in more open games, which was evident in their victory over Liverpool in the Champions League. However, their lack of control in this match may explain their inability to create chances. In contrast to their victory over Liverpool, they struggled to break down Barcelona’s defense, as seen in their recent draw with Atletico Madrid.
