Cristiano Ronaldo has now gone goalless in 10 straight games for Manchester United. This is his goal drought at the club level since 2010. Cristiano Ronaldo has missed clear chances and a penalty against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup during the drought.
Ronaldo is known for his goal-scoring prowess. He has conquered every league he has played in and his start to the second stint at United was bright. However, his goal-scoring tally has dried up recently. This is the first occurrence since 2010 and there are a lot of reasons behind his lack of goals.
Reasons behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s woes:
Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be caught in the middle of the mess that currently exists at Manchester United. November saw the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after their abysmal start to the season. Meanwhile, a few of the United players made several mistakes in defense to leak goals. Ronaldo was on the losing side when Watford beat United 4-1 to put the final nail in Ole’s sacking.
Many ex-United players have blamed the mediocrity that is now accepted at United. Their fall from grace has seen a massive decline in the levels that are now accepted as a Manchester United player. United continues to employ the likes of Maguire and Wan Bissaka who have been shambolic in defense. Meanwhile, United struggles to dominate games with Fred and Mctominay in midfield. A lack of balance in the team is evident for anyone who is a regular watcher.
Ralf Rangnick’s arrival has somehow steadied the ship. Ralf has been ruthless since day 1 and ousted the likes of Antony Martial and Donny Van de Beek, a duo who were set on leaving United.
Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be caught in the mess that United as a club right now. Age has always been just a number for a man of Ronaldo’s stature and physique. If United wants to bring back the glory days to Old Trafford, the levels that are currently acceptable will have to change. Give Cristiano Ronaldo the arsenal to fire and he will always deliver.
