David Silva, an iconic figure in Manchester City’s history, expressed his longing for the days. That is when he was an active player for the club, following his recent retirement from football. The esteemed former Spanish international dedicated a decade of his illustrious career to Manchester City, amassing an impressive record of 436 appearances and securing a remarkable collection of trophies. This culminated in the honor of having a statue in his likeness outside the Etihad Stadium.
However, upon departing Manchester City to join Real Sociedad back in Spain, the World Cup winner, David Silva, encountered unexpected challenges. Unfortunately, things did not unfold as planned for the seasoned player during his two seasons with La Real. His career took an unforeseen turn when he had to retire. That is due to an ACL injury sustained during a training session.
Meanwhile, David Silva was reflecting on his career in a recent interview with the Mirror. He disclosed the profound sense of longing he feels for playing in the distinctive blue shirt of Manchester City. Especially considering his four-year absence from the club.
David Silva said:
“I miss playing and I miss playing for City. It’s my club. I spent 10 years of my life there, so I have very good memories of being there. When I started playing, I couldn’t imagine that I would win so many titles. The aim was only to play at the highest level possible. I went back to Manchester with Real Sociedad last season, when we played United at Old Trafford and won 1-0. But I want to go back there with my family, maybe next year.”
When will David Silva return in the footballing world?
Since his retirement in the summer, David Silva has been away from the football scene. However, the former Spanish international midfielder promptly expressed his aspiration to return to the pitch, but this time in a coaching role.
Silva is not the sole ex-star Manchester City has bid farewell to in recent seasons. Under the management of Pep Guardiola, the club has witnessed the departures of Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho, and Ilkay Gundogan.
However, despite the departure of key players, the club has demonstrated resilience by maintaining a strong hold on English football. They have clinched five of the last six Premier League titles, securing three consecutive championships since the 2020/21 campaign.
