Dortmund rejects £67 million deal from Manchester United for Sancho

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Manchester United is said to have launched a £67 million bid for Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. However, Borussia Dortmund was quick to turn down this offer, as reported by BBC Sport.

Jadon Sancho was a subject for the transfer saga between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund last season. The Germans did not budge on their transfer fees and United was not able to match it. As a result, the move for the England international did not materialize.

The latest bid from Manchester United was an attempt to reignite their pursuit of Sancho. Transfer Guru Fabrizio Romano has tweeted that the England club has agreed on a five-year deal with the winger, but is unable to meet an agreement with Dortmund.

DORTMUND READY TO SELL SANCHO

Dortmund has expressed their conditions for selling Sancho this season. The club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told the media that Sancho and the club have a gentleman’s agreement and that the player will be allowed to leave this summer if conditions are met.

One of the conditions put on the table is that the transfer must be completed before the end of July. Dortmund does not want the transfer activity to continue into their preseason preparations and needs time to find a suitable replacement. Hence they are not ready to do any deals after July.

The other condition was regarding the asking price for the 21-year-old. Dortmund has reduced their fees for Sancho from £82 million to £108 million. The club will not sell Sancho this summer if the valuation is not met.

MANCHESTER UNITED NEED TO REVISE SANCHO BID

Manchester United’s bid for Sancho is around £67 million, which is way less than what Dortmund wants. Also, the report suggests that United wanted to pay the fee over a 5 year period while Dortmund is willing to extend it to only four years.

There are also issues regarding the add-ons and bonus payments in the contract. All this means that Dortmund was quick to reject the offer put forward by the English giants. Manchester United is now considering revising their offer and will know from previous experience that Dortmund will not change their stance.

While United are the favorites to land the signature of the winger, the delay in the transfer will be good news for other clubs. Both Chelsea and Liverpool have shown interest in Sancho and could steal the player from Manchester United.

Jadon Sancho is currently with England squad preparing for the Euro 2020 campaign. A good performance in the tournament could help in speeding up his transfer back to England. However, with United not ready to pay the money, likely, any transfer will now take part after the end of the Euros.
