Eric Garcia Likely to Agree on Deal With Barcelona in January

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Eric Garcia is looking forward to returning to his boyhood club this summer. The 19-year-old has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Barcelona.

He has had only 7 appearances for Manchester City this season, three appearances each in the Premier League and Champions League, and a solitary appearance in the EFL Cup is all the game-time he could amass this season.

In October 2020, Manchester City manager Guardiola revealed that Garcia had rejected a contract extension. This would mean that the center-back would be a free agent after June 30, 2021.

Eric Garcia situation at Manchester City, a hope for Barcelona

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona has agreed on a 5 year deal with the Spanish International and will be looking to sign him in the summer.

The Catalans seemed to be keen on signing the young defender on the January transfer window but financial difficulties have forced the club to be patient in making their move.

Towards the end of last season, Garcia was the first choice to partner Aymeric Laporte in the defense. However, City went on to buy Nathan Aké and Rúben Dias in the transfer window.

John Stones has been returning to form lately and this means Garcia has a hard time breaking into City’s defence.

Barcelona has Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, and Clement Lenglet at their disposal. Yet, they are currently at 6th in the La Liga and are 10 points off the top.

With the Euro’s coming up this year, the young defender will look to seal his spot in the squad along with Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique and Pau Torres.

Eric Garcia will be a useful addition to the club while the player too can hope for more game-time. A move to his native club and a more familiar league can surely help him improve his confidence.
