FC Barcelona legend praises Classico’s rival

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

FC Barcelona has been the home of some of history’s best-ever players. Lionel Messi, Puyol, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, Pique to name a few. Football fans will never forget the midfield trio of Xavi, Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets. In its prime, it was the best in the world and has ever since scripted its name as one of the best midfield trios of all time.

While Xavi has retired and has now returned to coach Barcelona, Busquets is still an essential part of the team. Andres Iniesta, on the other hand, plays in the Japanese top tier with Vissel Kobe.

FC Barcelona legend Iniesta praises Modric

While Iniesta is in the later stages of his career, Modric is still playing at his very best. Age has certainly caught up to him, as he has lost his pace. But he is still one of the best midfielders in terms of technical qualities in the world. Even at 37, the Croatian international is still the heartbeat of the Real Madrid team. Last season he won the Champions League and La Liga with the club. In 2019, Modric became the first player to win the Ballon d’Or in the era of Messi and Ronaldo.

In a recent interview with AS, Iniesta praised Modric for his qualities while also highlighting the similarities between them.

“We are players with different profiles but at the same time similar in terms of position on the field, the conception of the game, handling the ball. He is one of the best midfielders there is and will ever be. He is a reference for his team, and it is not easy to spend so many years at a club like Madrid making a difference.”

Iniesta also praised the Real Madrid trident of Kroos, Modric, and Casemiro.

“That Madrid trident is one of the best that has ever existed. They have won many titles, and without a doubt, he is one of the best, just like us. What I have enjoyed playing alongside Xavi and Busi I have not experienced again.”
