In the defensive midfield, the Gaurs had Lenny Rodrigues and Edu Bedia. Further up the pitch, Ferrando played Jesuraj, Noguera, and Brandon Fernandes. Jorge Ortiz was the lone striker who started in place of Igor Angulo.

On the other hand, Owen Coyle started with the familiar 4-3-3 formation. Experienced goalkeeper TP Rehnesh started in goal for Jamshedpur. Their defence included Gahlot, Stephen Eze, Hartley, and Lallawmawma.

FC Goa 3-0 Jamshedpur FC Post-match Analysis:

The game began promisingly as Jamshedpur made a bright start. Isaac came close with a shot from outside of the box but an outstretched hand of Naveen denied him. Then the Gaurs had a chance of their own but Rehnesh denied Ortiz. However, Rehnesh could not stop Ortiz from scoring a few minutes later. Brandon teed up Noguera who set up Ortiz for a low finish.

The Red Miners then worked pretty hard to create a clear cut opportunity to score. But Goa’s defence was pretty solid. Jamshedpur still were able to create chances. Valskis was denied from close range by Naveen. Then Eze missed a header to equalize following a free-kick. Ferrando’s side were 1-0 up at the break.

A few minutes after the restart, Noguera found Brandon on the left. The Indian playmaker then passed to Ortiz to score his second goal of the game. Ortiz could have completed his hat-trick four minutes later but Rehnesh denied him.

He was also denied his hat-trick goal at the 74th minute when the Red Miners’ keeper tipped the ball over the bar.

Then it was time for the FC Goa keeper to shine. In the 78th minute, Naveen stopped substitute Jackichand Singh’s shot and Eze’s goal-bound header from the following corner. Five minutes from the 90, a panicking at the back could have cost Naveen his clean sheet. However, William’s hit was cleared of the goal line by defender James Donachie.

Soon after, Alex Lima brought down Lenny and received his second yellow of the game. The 10-men Jamshedpur then conceded again after 88 minutes. Ivan Gonzalez sealed an emphatic 3-0 victory over the Red Miners.

Notable Performances:

Naveen Kumar: The FC Goa goalkeeper was playing his first game of the season. He produced a brilliant performance for the Gaurs. He made five saves and was excellent throughout the game.

“I am happy because we got the three points. We controlled the space, and in some moments, we controlled the whole game. We create opportunities to score goals.

But we are not happy because some of these opportunities were one-against-one. I hope to improve these details because for us it is very important.”

– Juan Ferrando

Jorge Ortiz: The Spanish striker scored a brace in the game. He could have scored a couple more but Rehnesh made fine saves to deny him. Nonetheless, it was a very impressive performance by him.

“What we didn’t do is take our chances tonight. Goa are a very good side and they have shown that season after season. They have some wonderful players. We knew what to expect from them. What we didn’t do was play up to our capabilities.

Their goalkeeper was Hero-Of-The-Match because we created five or six great goalscoring opportunities.”

– Owen Coyle

Next, FC Goa will face ATK Mohun Bagan on Sunday and Jamshedpur will face NorthEast United on the same evening.
