Four contenders for the Barcelona job if Koeman leaves

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona’s 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich has put Ronald Koeman’s job as Barcelona manager at a risk. All the Barcelona players looked lost on hope as they were toyed again by the German side and this time at home. It looks like Barcelona’s future project is going no were.

Following that Ronald Koeman is made the scapegoat, as the Catalan board has given the dutchman a three-match ultimatum. As per reports, Koeman has to give 100% in the next week as Barcelona plays three matches in six days. And if the Dutchman fails to deliver a good result in any of those matches he has to pack his bag and leave.

And considering the possibility of Koeman losing his job, Barcelona has four good options of replacing, via Express UK.

Four replacement option of Ronald Koeman at Barcelona

4. Erik ten Hag

Like Koeman, Erik ten Hag is also a Dutch origin coach who got his name in the top manager list after Ajax’s great two seasons. The Dutchman led Ajax to the Europa League final in the 2017/18 season. While also led the club to the Champions League semi-final in the 2018/19 season.

And in those journeys, he developed some of the young players who are now considered stars of football. The list consists name of Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Hakim Ziyech. Following Barcelona’s current condition and the team filled with young players can definitely take on the Catalan job. But Barcelona has to convince him wisely as he signed a new contract with Ajax which runs until 2023.

3. Xavi Hernandez

The Spanish midfielder now coach, Xavi Hernandez is a well-known name around Barcelona and we don’t need to give the reason. Retiring from his playing career at Al-Sadd SC in 2019, Xavi joined the club as a coach in the same year. And since then, the club has only tested success, lifting six trophies in Xavi’s two-year term.

Xavi was rumored to join Barcelona as manager this summer with Koeman failing to build success last season. But that didn’t happen as Xavi signed a new extending contract with Al-Sadd SC; as Barcelona continued with Koeman. However, the Barcelona legend could return to his former club this time as a manager being a possible replacement for Koeman.

2. Roberto Martinez

Currently managing the Belgian National team, Roberto Martinez is another great option to replace Koeman. Seeing Belgium’s development in the last few years with an improved playing style and result, Martinez might be considered for the job.

Other than managing Belgium, the Spanish coach has managed three premier clubs including Swansea City, Wigan Athletic and Everton. However, he didn’t have a good term with Everton and Swansea City. But won the FA Cup with Wigan Athletic in 2012/13. Anyways, those bad results with Everton and Swansea were in his early days of managing career. Keeping that aside Barcelona can sign the Spaniard following his Belgium journey.

1. Antonio Conte

The Italian manager is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Inter Milan this summer. That’s also despite leading the Italian side to Serie A title after 10 years. As per, reports he left the Inter job following a disagreement with the board about the club’s future.

After leaving the Italy job, Antonio Conte was rumored to join Real Madrid or Tottenham Hotspur this summer. But didn’t happen as both the clubs chose other options to fill up their manager position. Following which Conte is still a man without a job. And Barcelona could greatly cash in on the opportunity to replace Koeman. While his achievements with his previous clubs speak itself he is more than capable to lead a degrading Barcelona side.
