Fulham 0-1 Chelsea: Chelsea Struggled Against 10-Men Fulham

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Fulham lost 0-1 at home to London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League fixture on Saturday evening.

Mason Mount scored the winner for the Blues in this nail-biting encounter in the late minutes of the second-half over 10 men Fulham side. Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson saw a direct red card for his challenge on opponent’s skipper Cesar Azpilicueta.

With this win, Frank Lampard’s side climbed to 7th place in the standings whereas the Cottagers stay at 18th position and are close to being relegated from Premier League.

Fulham 0-1 Chelsea Team News:

Fulham made just a single change in the lineup bringing in Ademola Lookman for Ruben Loftus-Cheek. However, they played in a similar 3-5-2 formation.

Chelsea made seven changes in their starting 11 and Timo Werner was available as a substitute. They started with a 4-3-3 formation.

Fulham 0-1 Chelsea Analysis:

Hakim Ziyech was displaying his talent in the first few minutes for the Blues with some well-taken shots.

The attacking and possessive style of play greatly benefited the Blues. Mason Mount almost got right with a spectacular volley, but alas! it shot the post.

Ivan Cavaliero had a golden chance to put the hosts up, but his shot was well over the goalpost. There was a slight twist in the tale as Antonee Robinson picked up a straight red card after an unnecessary tackle on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Edouard Mendy was committing some silly mistakes in the defence that could have been costly.

However, Mason Mount broke the hearts of the 10-men Fulham team with a thunderous volley in the 78th minute. The celebrations were strictly following the COVID-19 precautions as commented by their manager, Frank Lampard.

However, Timo Werner’s form has been a headache for the Pensioners as the German is scoreless in 10 successive PL matches.

Notable Performances:

Mason Mount (8/10) – A perfect day at the office for the young midfielder scoring the one and only goal of the match. He is surely in top form in the recent few matches for Chelsea and deserves to be the Man of the Match.

Antonio Rudiger (7/10) – The centre-back was called up for his second consecutive and third Premier League appearance for the Blues. As expected, he was rock-solid in defence and performed well defensively. He needs to get more playing time for Chelsea if the club really needs to improve.

Edouard Mendy (5.5/10) – Mendy made some good saves but was facing miscommunication in the defense alongside Azpilicueta. However, he kept the Fulham forwards at bay.

Fulham next host table-toppers Manchester United on 21st January whereas Chelsea have another trip to Leicester City on 20th January midnight in the Premier League.
