Inter Milan might approach City’s Benjamin Mendy

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Inter Milan are on the lookout for a left-back and Benjamin Mendy is their target. This deal may come as surprise as Mendy has not had a very good time at Manchester City. In the 4 years, he has been at City, he has struggled to stay in form and keep himself fit.

Mendy has never been Pep Guardiola’s first choice playing less than 20 games a season on an average. In terms of appearances, his best season would be the 19/20 season where he grabbed 30 caps for the club. It was only last season that he scored his first goal in a 5-0 win over Burnley.

Inter Milan won the Scudetto last season after almost 10 years. However, Antonio Conte decided to leave the club along with important players such as Ashley Young and Achraf Hakimi. The exodus was set to continue but core members like Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella have decided to stay.

Mendy should ideally move to Inter

Mendy is not going to get the minutes he wants if he decides to stay at Manchester City. Oleksandr Zinchenko has been on the bench much like Mendy but his recent performances will see him become a big part of Pep’s plans. The wing-back has been the backbone of Ukraine’s run to the quarterfinals at the Euros.

Joao Cancelo has sealed his spot on the right but the Portuguese can play on the left as well. Mendy is lucky that top clubs are still interested in him and should move before it gets too late.

Other Players in the way

Inter have been trying to sign a left-back for quite some time. Marcos Alonso, Emerson, Alex Telles and Kostas Tsimikas have been on the clubs’ radar. Manchester City wants to sign Jack Grealish and Harry Kane this summer but are not sure if they want to spend that much money.

The deal could give City some handy cash and Mendy a new start. Angelino had a hard time at City but has been phenomenal since he joined RB Leipzig. Inter could be Mendy’s Leipzig.
