Jorge Mendes confirms that Ansu Fati wants to stay at Barcelona

Amidst intense rumours over Ansu Fati’s future, football superagent Jorge Mendes recently spoke with the media and affirmed that the young player wants to remain at Barcelona. The La Liga winners are expected to sell the 20-year-old forward this summer, as his market value is €35 million. This is because the team has to make significant sales to increase revenue and reduce its pay bill.

Jorge Mendes affirms that Ansu Fati will stay at Barcelona

Although Barcelona are open to offers for him this summer, Fati has been unwilling to entertain the notion of leaving the Catalan club, despite rumours of his transfer to the Premier League. It gave rise to rumours that Fati and Mendes were growing increasingly tense since the latter was making a valiant effort to get him to accept a departure this summer. The Portuguese superagent has now openly said that Ansu wants to remain at Barcelona, thus it appears as though he has agreed to his client’s requests. Mendes continued by praising his client as a future Ballon d’Or winner and one of the best young players in the world.

“Ansu wants to stay,” Mendes said, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.

“He wants to stay. He has scored three goals in his last games. What else do you want? He is a phenomenon. One of the best young players in the world. One day he will win the Ballon d’Or,” Mendes stated further.

The superagent reached Barcelona and talked with club executives sunday evening and yesterday afternoon prior to this development. Barça’s position on Fati puts them in a difficult situation because they need to make at least one significant sale by June 30. Due to the fact that he was a native of Catalonia and a product of La masia Academy. Hence any fee the Catalans would have received from his leave would have been recorded as net profit. That would have improved their Financial Fair Play standing. As things are, Fati doesn’t seem eager to leave, so it’s unclear how Barcelona will approach finding a solution.
