Juventus are eyeing a move for Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong to replace Arthur Melo. The latter is on the radar of Arsenal, who are looking to bring Melo on loan. Juve on the other hand are in a rebuilding process under Max Allegri. Federico Chiesa’s absence will affect Allegri’s side as they are also looking for his replacement in the market.
Meanwhile, Frenkie De Jong is among the players that Barca are looking to offload in the near future. After a massive dip in the Dutch midfielder’s form during the 2020/21 season, Xavi will be happy to let him go. The Dutchman miserably failed to maintain the level of performance he produced for Ajax. He arrived at Camp Nou in 2019 for a reported €75m.
However, De jong has a number of clubs interested in signing him including Juventus. Manchester City are also said to be a huge admirer of the Dutch international.
The Rise of young La Masia talents like Gavi, Pedri, and Riqui Puig is threatening for De Jong’s selection. The Netherlands International is bound to get less game time at Camp Nou. He could be used in a deal to boost Barca’s financial game as Juventus Man City are following his situation.
Will Juventus sign Frenkie De Jong to replace Arthur Melo who has been struggling with his fitness since his arrival in Turin
Juventus have a number of underperforming midfielders in their team at the moment. The Italian giants have had a dramatic start to the season. During the summer of 2021, Juventus re-hired the services of Massimiliano Allegri, who replaced Andrea Pirlo as the head coach. As the season began, Juve suffered a major blow after Cristiano Ronaldo decided to leave the club.
Meanwhile, Juve are reportedly interested in landing De jong into their team. However, Barcelona will not listen to offers unless they receive a permanent or at least an 18-month loan offer for De jong. The Old lady had a shaky start to the season but they are slowly finding their form back. They are climbing upwards in the Serie A points table and they will hope to claim the Scudetto this season.
Arsenal are also not looking to bring Arthur Melo on a permanent basis. The Gunners have made an attempt to sign the Brazilian on loan for the rest of the season. Juventus are hoping to offload Melo on a permanent basis and they will not accept any short-term loan deal for him.
