Lazio are reportedly closing in on a deal for FC Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder Toma Basic as per the report in Italian outlet TRANSFERmarketWEB.
The 24-years-old joined the Ligue 1 outfit back in 2018 from the Croatian side HNK Hajduk Split for €3.5 million. The Croat can be deployed as a defensive-minded midfielder role and also can play in the box-to-box role.
According to the report, Lazio have reportedly paid around €10 million to Bordeaux for the Croatia international. The midfielder has already undergone medical for the Eagles.
The report further claims that Maurizio Sarri’s side have agreed on a four year deal with the 24-years-old. Fellow Serie A side Napoli were also keeping a tab on the young midfielder, but the Biancocelesti’s interests were more concrete.
Lazio closing in on a deal for Toma Basic:
The Serie A giants currently have Lucas Leiva to play in the defensive midfield position and considering the Brazilian is well into his 30’s, it will not be viable for the former Liverpool man to produce performances week in week out. Therefore, signing Basic will be a shrewd decision from Lazio.
The left-footed midfielder likes to play defence-splitting through passes and is also efficient in delivering set-pieces. The 24-years-old has an eye for long-range shooting. However, the Croat can be wayward in passing at times and lacks a bit of nous in tackling as well.
After starting the season on a high note against Empoli, Lazio will be looking to continue their winning run when they welcome Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday. The Biancocelesti have earned all three points in the opening game despite conceding early in the game. So, the new manager Maurizio Sarri will have to concentrate on his defence so that they don’t concede cheap goals like last weekend.
