Lenglet likely to make his permanant move as Barca’s first summer transfer

FC Barcelona & Tottenham Hotspur are in advanced talks for the permanent transfer of Clément Lenglet for €14M according to SPORT.

Lenglet’s move to Spurs

The Blaugrana are struggling financially, and La Liga president Javier Tebas has publicly warned them  that:

“They must reduce their pay cost by €200 million($217 million) in order to comply with Financial Fair Play.”

This has given rise to rumours that a major player sale, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, or Raphinha, is  necessary.Yet in order to resolve financial situation, the Catalans should also try to sell a few stars  who are no longer needed.SPORT reported on Thursday morning that Barcelona and  Tottenham Hotspur are close to agreeing on a player who was once an important part of their defence.

When the Catalans used Clement Lenglet’s €35 million release clause at Sevilla in 2018, Josep Bartomeu, the previous president, signed him. Ernesto Valverde immediately won the La Liga championship, but the former France international later lost Xavi Hernandez’s favour and was loaned out to Spurs in January 2022.

Lenglet has made a strong impression in north London, and the two clubs are currently in talks to complete a €14 million ($15.2 million) permanent swap for the 27-year-old.
Internal reports on Lenglet, according to the Catalan daily newspaper, are “great on a personal and professional level,” suggesting that there won’t be any delays in concluding a deal in the upcoming weeks.

Barca desperate to resolve their Financial Fair Play problems

However, Ousmane Dembele’s injury has demonstrated that Raphinha is frequently the only reliable backup. As Fati and Ferran struggle with their form. With Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde currently Xavi’s favorites in central defense. Getting rid of Lenglet,Samuel Umtiti and Garcia possibly a good option to resolve their Financial Fair Play problems

“Barcelona admit that, for Leo Messi’s return, they will have to sell important players. The name on top of most people’s list is Ansu Fati”— @mundodeportivo

Ansu Fati’s father wants his son to leave Barcelona in order to get more playing time.
In case FC Barcelona cannot reduce their wage bill enough, the club will consider selling the following players:

  • Ansu Fati
  • Eric Garcia
  • Franck Kessié

If Ansu Fati were to leave FC Barcelona this summer, the most likely destination may be Manchester United! The player’s entourage believes that an offer of around €35M will be enough to convince FC Barcelona.

“Barcelona will not loan out Ansu Fati under any circumstances. Selling him isn’t ruled out anymore. But it would only happen if the club receive an exorbitantly high offer and the player clearly wants to leave.”
