Lewandowski is on fire for Barcelona in UCL

Robert Lewandowski grabbed the headlines for Barcelona yet again as the Polish striker scored a brilliant hattrick against Viktoria Plzen. The 34-year-old was at his mesmerizing best and led Barcelona in a comfortable 5-1 victory. The Barcelona man also surpassed Karim Benzema in the UCL all-time goalscoring charts with his hat trick. It was a stunning performance from Xavi’s Barcelona as they showed no mercy to Plzen. There were several top performers on the night but Lewandowski outdid all of them. Ousmane Dembele was also at his imperious best as he tormented the Plzen defence the whole night.

Robert Lewandowski is nothing but a gift from heaven for Barcelona. A team that scored just 2 goals last season in UCL just scored 5 in a single game. It is quite commendable that they have managed to turn the situation around. The effect Lewandowski has had in a short span of time is nothing short of brilliant. This team now looks like a world-beater. Although they are still going to face the big teams, the confidence and the morale would be pretty high. Xavi has reiterated the fact that new signings have added a new dimension to the club’s style.

Lewandowski, despite being 34, feels like a mid-20s striker. The former Bayern man is astonishingly well at pressing and is defensively very important to the team. The world can see why Barcelona paid the big bucks for a 34-year-old striker as he is still the best around. He has scored 8 goals in 5 games for the Catalans and will be looking to win the Pichichi. It must be difficult for Bayern Munich to live life without the Polish striker as any team would miss such a player. The Bavarians signed Mane and were in the blistering form up until 2 consecutive draws in Bundesliga.

Can Barcelona pass the Bayern test?

For 3 consecutive years, Bayern Munich have humbled Barcelona in the UCL. 2020 saw Barcelona get battered 8-2 by the Bavarians. And last year, they were beaten 3-0 at home as well as away to Bayern. They are probably the team that poses the most problems to the Blaugranas. So, it will be a big test for Barcelona again as they will try to make it out of their group. Beating Bayern Munich or even getting a decent result against them will be a positive thing for Barcelona.

But it feels like the Catalans are ready to face Bayern and go neck to neck with them. They finally have a squad that is capable of winning the big European trophies. The likes of Raphinha, Lewandowski, and Dembele will be a big threat to a team like Bayern Munich also. Bayern are wary of Barcelona and the form they are in. It will be a big statement by the Blaugranas if they can silence Bayern Munich next week.
