Robert Lewandowski is the best striker on planet Earth. The Polish is absolutely on fire for Barcelona and is already La Liga’s and UCL’s top scorer. He has had a fresh start and a new challenge in his career. But it is quite astonishing how well the 34-year-old has kept his body to perform at such a high level. Leaving a club like Bayern Munich was never easy for Lewy but Xavi convinced him. Lewandowski wanted to be the center of a new project which is what Xavi promised him. And neither of them has gone back on their words. Xavi has started the former Bayern man for most of the matches while Lewy has repaid that trust with goals.
It is no secret that winning the Ballon d’Or is one of Lewandowski’s biggest dreams. He deserved it in 2020 but France Football never awarded the Ballon d’Or for that year. And that surely infuriated the Barcelona man as winning the award became his target. Also, the striker fell out of favor at Bayern Munich which is when Barcelona offered him a contract. It is no doubt that Barcelona have the biggest history in terms of Ballon d’Or wins and winners. Lionel Messi remains unmatched with 7 golden balls which is what motivated Lewandowski to come and join the Catalans.
Lewy was not shy to accept that the road to the golden ball is shorter from Barcelona than Bayern. The 34-year-old said:
“ I know that Barcelona is the team where the most players have won the Ballon d’Or. I think there is a shorter way to the Ballon d’Or from Barça than from Bayern. “
On the youngsters at the club and their impact, he said:
” Pedri, Gavi, Ansu, Ferran, I’ve never been on the pitch or in a dressing room like this. They are already showing great qualities being so young and they will improve very soon.”
Lewandowski also feels at home in Barcelona despite this being his first season only as the fans keep chanting his name.
A season to Bounce Back for Barcelona
It feels so long since Barcelona won a major title. It was not until Lionel Messi used to bail them out of impossible situations time after time. But now things have taken a massive turn. Barcelona have a squad that is capable of beating the best. They have got the right amount of experience with young talent and world-class quality all over the pitch. Xavi has managed to gather a squad like no other.
This can be the season when Barcelona can finally announce that they are back to being the scary team they once were. They are dismantling teams in La Liga right now and have scored the most amount of goals. They have also conceded the least goals which was a rare thing for so many seasons. But surely, no team will make it easy for them with Real Madrid, Manchester City, and PSG all bolstered this season.
