Lionel Messi joins Inter Miami in MLS

Lionel Messi is ready to join Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami FC, according to reports. The striker is eager to join the David Beckham-owned franchise in the United States. Messi, who recently left PSG, was supposedly on the books of Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal as well as previous club Barcelona. But it has now certain that the 2022 World Cup winner will play for Inter Miami. This will be the star Argentine’s first appearance outside of Europe.

With all three clubs pushing harder to sign Messi, the MLS club has emerged victorious. Messi will play for Inter Miami next season, according to an official confirmation from the player to @mundodeportivo & @sport.

Lionel Messi: “I’m gonna join Inter Miami. The decision is 100% confirmed”.

Financial Fair play issues ruins Barca’s party to sign Messi

Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi spoke with club president Joan Laporta earlier this week at the latter’s residence, raising the prospect of a return to Barcelona. However, the absence of a formal offer from the Blaugrana appears to be causing disquiet within the Argentine camp. Despite receiving La Liga’s permission for their economic long-term viability plan, Barça needed to implement it and make some sales to ensure Messi’s signing and registration.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Messi did all he could to play for Barcelona again. For what it’s worth, the Blaugrana club did everything they could to arrange a comeback until the very last second. However, the path was eventually hindered by La Liga and Financial Fair Play. The Catalans simply did not have enough room for the former captain to accommodate in wage bill. Also, Lionel Messi didn’t want any player to leave or reduce his salary because of him.

Barcelona must lower their wage bill for the upcoming season, and they are still far from meeting the 1:1 requirement for arrivals and departures. Messi may no longer be a possibility, but the club will need to sell players in order to sign new players such as Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez.

Inter Miami might reunite some old Barca-mates

According to Gaston Edul, signing Messi will not be Inter Miami’s main target. They are, in fact, just getting started. According to the Argentine reporter, the MLS giants will begin talks with other former Barcelona stars such as Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and even Luis Suarez.
