Luka Modric is one of the greatest midfielders of this generation. The Croatian is a 5-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid. He was also the player who broke the Messi-Ronaldo Ballon D’or streak and won it in 2018 with his ridiculous season. Modric was also close to winning the World cup in 2018 when he captained his side to almost the trophy. Had it not been for France, Luka Modric would have won the most prestigious trophy in world football. But besides that, Modric has set a new level for midfielders to play the modern game.
At this moment, Modric is dominating the game at 37 years of age. At an age when most players feel like retiring, he is playing at the highest level for Real Madrid. The club is adamant to give him a new contract and make him stay for another year or 2. But the decision has not yet been made by the Croatian. Perez is trying to tie him down to another contract but the final decision will be Luka Modric’s. Real Madrid are 2 points off the top of the table and also have topped their UCL group. After their heroics, last season, Ancelotti’s men will be again looking to take their 14th UCL with Modric having a key part in it.
But right now, contract renewal is the first priority for Real Madrid. Ancelotti feels that there is another season of world-class football left in Modric and thus he wants him to stay. But it will most likely depend on Croatia’s world cup and how Modric will feel after that. Real Madrid have already started looking for replacements. Camavinga and Tchaoumeni are already players for the future. The current Real Madrid squad is quite old with the likes of Benzema, Modric, Kroos, and Nacho. Perez has already started plans for the future of the club and replacing his older players at the right time.
Caicedo a real option for Los Blancos
Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation of Brighton Midfielder Moises Caicedo. The 20-year-old is one of the top names in the premier league at the moment. He has developed into a brilliant talent after poor spells at some other clubs. With Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric approaching the twilight of their career, Los Blancos will need new recruitments.
Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez have been impressed with Caicedo and wish to land him in Madrid next year. Jude Bellingham is also one of the names that have popped up during the midfielder conversation. But getting Caicedo will not be easy as Chelsea have also gotten into the race. Graham Potter will be eager to have his former club do him a favor in the case of Caicedo.
