Manchester City ‘s lkay Gündogan’s contract expires in June. Hence Barcelona are interested in signing him for free. According to Mundo Deportivo, the 32-year-old’s arrival to the Camp Nou is doubtful due to the Catalan club’s financial difficulties and Manchester City’s efforts to keep him. Manchester City offers a long-term contract to Gündogan

Despite the German’s agent securing an agreement in principle for a three-year contract, the Camp Nou offices have recently expressed concern about missing out on the midfielder. That’s because Manchester City’s stance has shifted. They ‘now agree to offer a long-term contract as per the player’s demand’ after first offering a one-year contract. This, combined with Barcelona’s economic uncertainties, has made the Spanish giants to worry. City won the Premier League title for the third time in a row last weekend. Gundogan has been instrumental in the club’s continuing success.

Barcelona is awaiting La Liga’s approval to register renewals for a couple of their players, which must be accomplished before new signings can be made. So at this point they have not obtained approval. Although Xavi Hernández’s team is confident of getting approval from La Liga, the delay would jeopardise other operations, particularly Gündogan.

Manchester City should be able to renew his contract due to Pep Guardiola’s side agreeing to meet the player’s renewal criteria and Barcelona’s difficult financial state. After the Champions League final on June 10th, Gündogan can make his decision about his future. This would allow Barcelona time to persuade the German to join them.

For the time being, Barcelona is not hopeful about the player’s free transfer in the summer. Pep Guardiola wants to keep the 32-year-old in England with the offer of a two-year contract. Therefore only time will give us a clarity of Gündogan’s contact.
