Victor Lindelof came into the side as well Dean Henderson started in goal. Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood were the front three. Paul Pogba also started in midfield.

Manchester United 3-2 Liverpool post-match analysis:

Manchester United started the game pretty well and threatened the Liverpool goal more than Liverpool did in the first half.

But Liverpool got the lead from a slightly miss judged positioning from Lindelof. Firmino’s through pass was pinpoint perfect and Salah’s cheeky finishing was excellent as well.

Manchester United were not behind for long, they created a quick counter and the long ball was superb from Rashford for Greenwood and he finished it calmly.

United had few great moments as well but they weren’t clinical enough. The Red Devils had quite a few corners but nobody kept the ball on target after winning the header.

Straightway Manchester United scored the second goal from a young defender Williams’ mistake, Rashford took the advantage excellently.

Liverpool came back to the game on 58th minute, James Miller missed a glorious opportunity to equalise but his shot went way over the bar. From the follow-up goal kick, United tried to play out from the back but Cavani missed his pass and from the same combination like the first goal Salah equalised the game.

Salah got another chance to go ahead but his tame shot saved by Henderson.

In the end, Bruno Fernandes scored the winner from a superb free-kick from just outside the box which gave United the win to progress in the next round.

Notable Performances:

Marcus Rashford(LW) – (8.5/10)(Manchester United): The pass for the first goal was outstanding and he scored the second goal excellently.

Mason Greenwood(RW) – (8/10)(Manchester United): Finishing was very composed for the first goal and he returned the favour to Rashford for the second goal.

Mohamad Salah(RW) – (8/10)(Liverpool): Scored two goals in the game and he breaks his goal drought pretty good way.

Manchester United will play against Sheffield United next in the Premier League at home on 27th January and Liverpool’s next game is away to Tottenham Hotspur in the league on 28th January.
