Manchester United are reportedly showing active interest in Villarreal defender Pau Torres as per the report in GIVEMESPORT

The centre-back is enjoying a stellar campaign this term under former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, scoring five goals and keeping 13 clean sheets in 41 appearances in all competitions.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move to the Old Trafford stadium last summer. However, the Red Devils decided to sign Raphael Varane from Real Madrid and the Spaniard remained at Estadio de la Ceramica.

The Spanish international is expected to leave the Yellow Submarines at the end of this season and Manchester United are one of the clubs who are keen on signing the 25-year-old along with city rival Manchester City and Chelsea

The defender has a release clause of around €60 million in his current contract which can be triggered this summer. And the report also stated that there is a possibility that the Spaniard could move to the Old Trafford stadium this summer.

Should Manchester United sign Pau Torres?

Signing reinforcements at the back will be a shrewd decision. Given the Red Devils have leaked 52 goals in 35 Premier League encounters this season. Which is more than Burnley who are currently fighting for survival at the bottom of the table.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils have a bloated squad when it comes down at the back. They already have five centre-backs in the squad. However, two of them never get the chance to play.

Therefore, in order to sign a new defender, the club’s hierarchy need to offload some of their defensive options. Pau Torres could turn out to be a very good addition to Manchester United.

The centre-back is good in the air, comfortable with the ball, can play passes between the lines and has an eye for long-range passes. So, the Spaniard has every attribute to become a key player under the new manager Erik ten Hag.

However, the defender’s lack of pace is the downfall of his game. The Spaniard might struggle to play in a high-pressing system that plays with a high defensive line. So, it will be interesting to see whether ten Hag would want to sign Torres or not.
